Dear participants,

Materials science and engineering is generally regarded as the driver of technology. Recent advances in both experiment and theory have enabled the manipulation of the material properties at both the molecular and microstructural levels to achieved desired characteristics. The advent of advanced materials is thus at the cross-disciplinary cutting edges of phyiscs, mathematics, and engineering. The Institute for Advanced Study in Hong Kong and the International Center for Materials Research in USA will co-organize a one-week workshop on advanced materials at HKUST. It aims to share ideas among the participants in a relaxed atmosphere and discuss the most recent developments in the rapidly evolving field of advanced materials. The workshop will comprise ~25 senior scientists from both US and HK, with an equal number of junior scientists at the postgraduate or postdoc levels.

Sincerely yours,

Ping Sheng (Chair)
